Position description

The Department of History within the School of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

We are seeking applicants for temporary lecturer position(s) in the fields of Africa, Ancient Mediterranean, East Asia, Europe, Jewish Studies, Latin America, Middle East, United States, History of Science, and Public History.
Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Lecturers will work with the Director for Undergraduate Studies to discuss course content and develop syllabi as needed.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on published UC pay scales.

Appointments may be one or more quarters based on departmental need, and for one, two, or three courses per quarter.

Subsequent applications will be reviewed periodically as teaching needs arise.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have an ABD or Ph.D. in History, related History fields, Anthropology, or 3-5 years of professional experience in the relevant discipline. ABD candidates will be considered.

Qualified candidates should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience or expertise in a specialized area.

Examples of relevant accomplishments include, but are not limited to: strong teaching or mentoring evaluations, peer or professional reviews, peer-reviewed publications, creative research, and applicable grants, awards, honors, or nominations.

Must have Ph.D by the time of start date.
