WCPL is hiring two Temporary - Librarians, for its Collection Development Services Division to work
in Materials Management.
These positions play a critical behind-the-scenes role in ensuring that library users encounter timely, accurate and well-maintained collections.
The Materials Management Librarians contribute directly to reducing wait times, improving discoverability and balancing the library’s collection across all branches. These Librarians support the efficient lifecycle of library collections by coordinating selection support, receiving, cataloging workflows and distribution. This role ensures that materials move accurately and quickly to the shelf, while maintaining high standards for data integrity and system-wide consistency.
Working collaboratively with Collection Development and branch staff, these Librarians help maintain a responsive, well-balanced collection that meets community demand.
Key Responsibilities:
Materials Processing & Workflow Coordination:
- Generate lists to support movement of books across the library system
- Help manage and distribute items from our central inventory (BookHub)
- Maintain data to inform shelving capacity and distribution
Cataloging & Data Integrity:
- Perform copy cataloging and limited original cataloging as needed
- Maintain accuracy and consistency in bibliographic and item records
- Support authority control and metadata standards
Collection Maintenance Support:
- Assist with system-wide inventory projects, shifting and collection moves
- Support deselection and replacement workflows using established criteria
- Analyze collection usage data to identify gaps or overstock
Logistics & Distribution:
- Coordinate routing and distribution of materials to branch locations
- Support high-volume movement of materials between locations
- Ensure timely delivery of high-demand items
Communication & Collaboration:
- Serve as a communications point between Collection Development and branch staff
- Respond to inquiries regarding orders, processing and item status
- Provide clear, timely communication regarding workflow changes or issues

18 Hours / Week, Mon-Fri (no evening or weekend hours)
